Physical literacy in Jenison/Hudsonville

Have you ever heard the phrase “physical literacy”?  I’m guessing that you might not have, since it’s sort of new term being used in physical education.  Well, it simply means learning physical skills that allow you to move well, like academic literacy helps children learn to read well (among other things).

Did you know that physical movement is 50% of the battle against obesity and also helps in raising math and reading  skills by up to 10%?  Let’s get children to learn how to ENJOY sports.  It is a gift for a longer and more enjoyable life!

Some skills for physical literacy are throwing, catching,  kicking, batting, jumping, balance and agility.  Just like learning to ride a bike, physical literacy skills are retained for a lifetime and provide the confidence and ability  to participate in any physical activity.

Motion Evolution, MoEv for short, includes physical literacy in the core program along with nutrition and braingym movements.  MoEv is a program to reach out to children (and adults too) to learn how to have FUN with exercise!  Horizon Complex has 4 different Saturday dates set up for a trial MoEv class:

  • October 2
  • October 9
  • October 16
  • October 23
